Legend has it that many eons ago a race of scientist surmised that if there was an icy area north of them that there was also an icy area south of them. They called that south area Antarctica. This I think is a load of squid guts! In fact I am inclined to believe tall tales of squid so big they can take on the biggest whales in the water. Antarctica pah... it Penguinia always has been and always will be. No one ever asked us what this land and sea mass were called, no. Those scientist just assumed that is what this area should be called. I want all our penguin brothers and sisters to rise up together and every scientist out there calling this land by it's true and proper name. Penguinia
Oh by the way this isn't Misky (she is off fishing right now), the name I have been given is Steve I am the leader of "Penguins for Penguinia". A political group bent on changing the name of this land, we also campaign against the Killer Whale tyranny, and run a couple of other campaigns. "Seals are bullies too" and "Stop the Scientist playing Penguin Pick up". Anyway we have a meeting shortly to talk about our latest Penguins for Penguinia march. It is looking like its going to be bigger and better than last year.
Type soon - and remember PENGUINIA FOREVER

Remembering
We penguins do not have any concept of war or conflicts... but we have come to learn that some of the scientists like to stand in silence for a little while thinking about others who fought in wars current or long since past.
We don't claim to understand why these things happen and why other scientists (I assume that is what you call your whole race) feel the need to lay down their lives. But it doesn't mean that we do not care about the loss. So when we see the scientists in their moment of silence, we too will stand still and be silent.

Killer Whale suck!
Killer whale close
time to fly
will be safe of ice
Just though of that as I made my way back to the gathering after yet another killer whale dash! Although word is that this one was after fish.... I don't believe a word of it, they are cunning and sneaky. Never trust a smile with THAT many teeth.
Just wanted to share that with you

To the great iceberg in the sky
Well finally the white out has finished. Took a while to blow itself out but we can now all shake of the snow and ice from our feathers. It can come at a bit of cost, there are always some penguins who don't make it to see the end of it. This white out was no exception, we are just preparing now. Penguins do not spend long morning as we like to see the happier side of life. Every penguin has to go up to the great iceberg in the sky, and it's a happy place. A place where they can waddle and belly slide to their hearts content, swim without fear of those pesky seals or worse, those lubbering, lumbering killer whales. Grrrrr I hate them so..... there sharp pointy teeth and..... oh sorry forgot myself there.
Suppose I should introduce myself, I am a 122cm 35g of Emperor Penguin. My name (well the one I was given by the scientist studding me .. more on that later) is Misky... not what I would have chosen for myself. But then we penguins aren't in the habit of naming each other, so what do I know? We can all tell one another from the sound of our voices. But the scientists insist and they give us fish sometimes when they call our names so it's sort of stuck.
Back to the matter at hand, our sending off of those who didn't make it up to the great iceberg in the sky. We all gather together in a tight pack and sway slightly in unison. Slowly and quietly singing, getting louder and louder rasising our heads as we increase in our song. Sending our kind up sky ward to spend their days in the cold sun. Once we have done this, we spend some time talking about those who have gone. Sharing stories, then once we have done all this we end the whole ceremony with our national anthem. It's all a lovely (and sad) time..... ahhh need to go looks like we are about to start the ceremony.
Catch you later

Break in the white out
There is currently a break in the white out we are experiencing. It's not an unusual white out, just loads of wind and snow. But it does make typing a little difficult, you can barely tell if the flipper in front of you is yours or the neighbours.....I spent one white out thinking I had lost all feeling in my right flipper only to find out that it belonged to the penguin next to me....embarrassing!
Hummm the wind is picking up again gonna have to go now.
